David Rews

Medical Subject Chair, SCOPUS Content Selection and Advisory Board, 2009+

David Rew has been a Consultant General Surgeon with Southampton University Hospitals in the United Kingdom and Honorary Senior Lecturer to the University of Southampton since 1999. He was previously an Honorary Consultant Surgeon to the University Hospitals of Leicester from 1994 to 1999.

He was Editor-in-Chief of the EJSO, the European Journal of Surgical Oncology from 2003 to 2009 and a member of the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Council from 2008 to 2010.

In 2009 he was appointed as Medical Subject Chair of the SCOPUS Content Selection Advisory Board (CSAB). The SCOPUS CSAB is an independent group of experienced subject editors, librarians and bibliometricians from the spectrum of STM, Arts and Humanities journals. It meets twice yearly to advise on quality standards and more generally on the strategic direction of Scopus, which makes available the abstracts and metrics of approximately 18,000 journals.

Under Rew's leadership, the CSAB has advanced discussions and has developed and promoted clear policies on publication ethics and publication malpractice. This programme is now in the process of being implemented on a universal basis within SCOPUS and for all applicant journals as a condition of accession to the world's largest quality controlled commercial citation system.
